Melanocytic Nevi (Moles)

Moles are structures that result from the clustered growth of cells called melanocytes, which produce the pigment responsible for skin color. They can be found anywhere on the body and are often brown, round, or oval formations.

Some moles are present at birth, while others develop later in life. In genetically predisposed individuals, new moles can appear throughout their lifetime. Moles are more commonly found in sun-exposed areas and may change over time.

Pregnancy, adolescence, and sun exposure can accelerate their growth and lead to the development of new moles.

Common moles are typically oval or round, dome-shaped, about 5 mm in diameter, and of a uniform color.
